What are you using (cleaning agent) in your ultrasonic cleaner?
How to remove the top part of the body shock, any recommendations?
Rebuild OME BP51
Tks bro
On my king shocks one adjuster moves like butter the other one is super hard to turn any idea shocks are brand new
how about fox shock?
Filthy is the best, wish you guys shipped to Canada. Solid content!
How does rebuilding a coilover with a internal floating piston differ? I have the King OEM coilovers for my 3rd gen 4runner and would like to rebuild/revalve them.
Curious as to what a job exactly like this can be charged to a customer 🧐
How much does it cost to get a set of shocks rebuilt?
6-700 for all 4 (parts +labor)
This is a fantastic video Ben. Thanks for putting this information out. Would you be able to do a video on breaking down a King coil-over shock? I figure that once the coil is off, the process is very similar.
Just did it with my front coil-overs. Exact same thing except for needing a spring compressor. I got it off Amazon, only one or 2 that will work for king coilovers
@@JacobMueting thanks for that info! Which compressor did you go with? Did you feel safe using it?
What shock oil are you using?
Great video. Thank you. Thinking of rebuilding my coilovers. Is the process the same?
impressive work
How often should you rebuild?
Really enjoy your videos, dumb question... does the shock oil get recycled or reused? I just wondered if it could go through a 2 micron or less system to clean it and reuse??
Love the video, getting ready to rebuild my 2.5 kings. I have a leak coming from the adjuster knob and the shaft seals. I have not seen a video of anyone replacing those adjuster seals/o rings. Is that in the King rebuild kit?
There is gas leak, if you see the secure bolt there is burble when the guy fill the gas....
How much fluid is normal used in a 2.5 Resi. Rebuild ? 14 inch travel
oh thats nasty, thanks for the education
How often do ADS shocks need to be rebuilt?
My reservoir hose is to short on my fox 2.0 I want to mount it on a separate bracket. Shocks are brand new. Can I just swap to a longer hose without adding oil or nitrogen?
You need to get a hold of akron bearing and seal. Give them the inside dimension and out side dimension or the part number from the old seal they will get you the correct seal to use sometimes you may need the hight of the old seal. And sometimes you may need an o ring they can help with those too. I have had good luck with bushings and needle bearings and ball and taper roller bearings also They are in akron ohio.
Thanks for referral, that is what we did on these, just worked backwards from the required metric dimensions and found someone on eBay selling a single seal.
@@ShockService I do that more often than not. Even with honda motorcycle and dirt bike stuff. The parts are readily available. But so overpriced I found that if I get the parts this way generically I save a ton of money and they 99%of the time have the same seal part numbers if something is different it's like an extra seal lip for pre wiping dust away and dosent effect the seal altho they have usually been able to get the oem style seal after I mention the difference and ask the why is that different questions. And I still end up getting them cheeper than the oem part. Thanks for the videos you make its always nice to be able to share and swap information that helps us all
What’s your turnaround time if I send you guys a set to rebuild?
That depends on the style of shock, the number of shocks, and the services needed but once we have you on the books we always ask for 2 weeks. Services rarely take that long but we want to account for any surprises and the need to have parts delivered if we don't have them in stock. Email us with a few photos of your shocks and we can get you a more specific ETA as well as a price quote.
Do you sell non foaming shock oil as well?
Yes, non-foaming oil is used in all air shocks and bump stops: www.filthymotorsports.com/King_Shock_Oil_p/king-oil.htm
On your site you don’t mention how to get that shock oil drip cup. Everything I see online says up to 2 1/8 size.
Great question, we got that drip cup from 303 Shock Services
Добрый день! Поясните, пожалуйста, с какой целью разбирали амортизатор? Закрутить маленькие винты в поршень? Зачем они нужны? Перекрывают какие-то каналы?
Translation: "Can you please explain why you took the shock absorber apart? Putting small screws into the piston? What are they needed for? Blocking some channels?" Reply: When tuning a shock, the valving shims are adjusted or rearranged and in this case a set screw was used to block one of the bleed holes to reduce oil flow through the piston. (King shocks have 3 open bleed screws by default.)
Great video, makes it seem so easy! Thank you
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
This has been super helpful in understanding the construction of a shock! Looking forward to more videos!
Thank you for the feedback, more to come for sure!
How much does a refresh cost usually?
Current pricing is listed on our website: www.shockservice.com
Thanks Ben For All Your Information But Where Can ,t I Get The Seals Kit For The Bilstein Shock 5160 With Reservoir? Same That You Fixed but With Out Agustmet.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Bilstein parts are very hard to source, you may need to special order them through a vendor like Summit Racing.
Great format. Awesome content. thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Very informative Ben and great job with your comprehensive content. Just curious as to whether or not King, or your firm, offers stainless Schrader fittings as well as stainless fittings for the Aeroquip plumbing from the shock to the reservoir,, If they do hopefully it's of the 316L variety, marine grade and not just 304, "exterior". Please advise at your convenience. Thank you and am looking forward to visiting with you on my Ram 3500 4X 6.7. Regards,,
Oh, also,,,are the shafts as well available in stainless steel and if so, what grade,,,, Lastly, are King shafts solid or hollow,,,,
Where do I find the tools to pull these shocks apart. I need to change the shim stacks in mine
We have all the tools needed listed here: www.crawlpedia.com/shock_rebuild_tools.htm
Ben, I am familiar with rebuilding WP, Showa, KYB shocks on dirt bikes and vacuum bleeding before nitrogen charging is nearly required. Is there something unique about King shocks that doesn’t necessitate vacuum bleeding or is that still best practice?
Vacuum bleeding is optional as the design allows for easy bleeding on most off-road shocks like these. For more complicated shocks or unique configurations we do use a vacuum bleeder.
Thanks for the reply. If I may one additional clarifying question. And that is because for example even a non Bypass 2.5 reservoir shock doesn’t contain any valve stack between the reservoir and the shock body.
Hello about King Shocks Shock Fluid , Can I use other brands of shock oil ? if possible Is that 5w or 10w
Yes, most medium (10W) shock oils will work great.
Hello about King Shocks Shock Fluid , Can I use other brands of shock oil ? if possible Is that 5w or 10w

Could you please do a comprehensive video on ORI’s?? Bleepin Jeep, Matt’s Off-road Recovery, Fab Rats etc all use ORI’s every single day. Thank You! ❤
Very good🌺
Thank you very much!
you talk about the pressure needed to remove the whiper cap, but i don't understand why?
Great question! The wiper cap threads onto the seal head so if there is no pressure in the reservoir the seal head might turn under the retaining ring. In other words, the pressure pushes the seal head against the retaining rings and creates enough friction that you can un-thread the wiper cap.
Get some smooth jaw knipex pliers, they work great for jobs like that and no scratches.
I will look into that, haven't seen those before and all we use is Knipex. Thanks!
hello, the shaft spacer on my shock cant be remove, what should i do?
I'm assuming this is an external shaft spacer. Use some heat and once the spacer expands, spray some WD-40 around the shaft, you should be able to work it loose. If not, remove the rod end and then tap it off that direction.
@@ShockService thank you, heat really work.
I’m considering buying a set of Carli King Pintop shocks for my F350. Can you tell me what the average miles between rebuilds? I think you mentioned 50,000 to 100,000. Also, I tow a fifth wheel but I have airbags to assist with the load. Will this affect the life of the shocks? I ran ICON before and they require a rebuild at 20,000 miles… sometimes less. Horrible shocks in my opinion. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Every application is different but, in general, we would want to see service between 50k and 100k miles of average use.
@@ShockService that’s great. I do mostly highway driving with a little off-road here and there. Thanks for the info.
Are these needle shocks
No, just standard King shocks, not IBP. We will try and have a video on those sometime this year.
Dumb question, but how do you remove stuck spherical bearings? On my 2.5's half of them came out with a bit of persuasion, the other ones were not coming out at all and I did not want to damage the caps or the rod ends. Your videos helped a TON, very much appreciated. I was going to ask the same question @usrunningrampant3711 did, those are really cool. Oh and have you thought about trying a small arbor press for the press in seals? They work amazing on u joints ect.
We cover that in our other video but basically you just need to support the rod end or top cap and then use a socket to hammer out or press out the bearing. If the rod ends are damaged, make sure to press the bearing out through the lest damaged size. You can also use heat if necessary.
@@ShockService OK cool, I wasn't really sure how much I could get away with and didn't want to ruin them. Good info for the next time I rebuild them, wayyyyy sooner than last time LOL. Thank You
Love your videos.
So glad!
Good Job 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
What is the orange and rubber tube you are using to clean with around 10 min
Those are emery blocks or abrasive blocks. Here are the ones we use available on Amazon: amzn.to/3xMS3Fa amzn.to/3DNczsY (As an Amazon Associate, we earn a small commission on purchases which does not affect your pricing.)
another great video. I wish I was that fast.
We wish that was real-time, too!
I have a king OEM series coilover that came from the factory with a reservoir hose fitting clocked ~30 degrees down, rather than nice and flat like they normally do. I'd like to adjust the hose back up, but it doesn't look like the ORB fitting uses a jam nut+ washer. Instead, it looks like the nut is directly contacting the shock cap, and it goes to a 90-degee JIC swivel tube fitting. Is the ORB still able to be rotated then locked back down, or would this need to be rotated at the JIC fitting?
Almost all King OEM kits use JIC fittings to allow the hoses to be rotated as shown in this video. Email us a photo of your fittings and we'd be happy to help.
